Wild encounters and meaningful journeys

Imagine waking up to birdsong deep in the heart of Cát Tiên — one of Vietnam’s last remaining lowland rainforests, and a place most visitors to Vietnam never get to see. This two-day journey takes you far beyond the tourist trail, designed for families, nature lovers, and anyone seeking a more meaningful way to experience this country.

The highlight of the program is a rare, hands-on volunteering experience at Free The Bear, a sanctuary dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating bears who have suffered from the illegal wildlife trade. For half a day, you’ll work alongside conservationists, gaining an intimate understanding of what it truly takes to protect these magnificent animals, and leaving with a story worth telling.

Travel itinerary

Cycling and wild swimming

Meals: Not included | Accommodation: Bungalow/ SUP Double / Twin room in Nam Cat Tien Park

Your tour guide and driver will pick you up at your hotel at 9 am. It’s time to beat the city traffic and head towards Đồng Nai province and Nam Cát Tiên National Park, one of the very few places in Vietnam where wildlife can still be spotted in its natural habitat.

After approximately three hours on the road, you’ll arrive at the park entrance and cross the Đồng Nai River into the wilderness. Check in to your accommodation inside the park — staying here is not only convenient for joining activities, but is itself a small act of support for the park’s conservation efforts. Lunch is at a restaurant within the park grounds (not included in the tour price), giving you time to settle in and prepare for the afternoon ahead.

In the afternoon, beneath the shade of the forest canopy, you’ll embark on a 16 km cycling journey and a 600 m walk to reach a remarkable destination: a 400-year-old Ficus benjamina tree, standing beside a crystal-clear stream rarely visited by travellers. Take your time to wade in, breathe it all in, and enjoy the stillness.

You’ll return to the park centre in the late afternoon for rest and dinner.

Prefer not to cycle? Your guide can arrange a car transfer for a surcharge. The afternoon can also be adjusted to a leisurely walk to ancient trees for guests who’d prefer a gentler pace — contact us for details.

Option: Night Safari Experience

After dinner, something extraordinary awaits. Board an open-top truck with a park ranger and venture into the forest after dark, spotlighting nocturnal wildlife as they go about their night: sambar deer, wild boar, porcupines, gaur, civets, barking deer, mongoose, weasels, and nightjars. It’s a rare, humbling glimpse into a world most visitors never see. Wildlife sightings are not guaranteed — nature is unpredictable — but the experience of being out in the forest at night is unforgettable in itself.

Meals: Breakfast | Accommodation: Not included

This morning, you’ll visit the Free The Bear conservation centre — one of only three bear sanctuaries in Vietnam, alongside those near Tam Đảo and Cúc Phương national parks. Here, dedicated staff work tirelessly to rescue and rehabilitate sun bears and moon bears rescued from the illegal wildlife trade.

Your visit goes beyond observation. You’ll learn about the bears’ stories, help craft enrichment toys designed to stimulate their natural instincts, and watch as the bears interact with them — an experience not open to the general public.

By the end of the morning, you’ll leave with a genuine sense of contribution to wildlife conservation in Vietnam, and memories that are hard to leave behind. After lunch at the park, say goodbye to the ranger team before making your way back to Hồ Chí Minh City, arriving at approximately 5 pm.

This experience can be extended to a full day at the conservation centre. Contact us for details.
